How to Choose the Best Managed WordPress Hosting Provider
Managed WordPress hosting is a concierge service where regular backups, WordPress updates, security, speed, and other technical aspects of site management are handled exclusively by hosting provider.
While most websites and blogs start off with shared hosting packages due to their affordability, growing businesses often choose to transfer to managed hosting. However, the decision about it should not be taken lightly – you need to be well informed about the pros and cons of various solutions to avoid some common mistakes with the choice of WordPress hosting. So, if you’re not sure what the best WordPress hosting providers are, keep reading.
In this interview, we asked Matteo Duò, digital consultant and Editor in Chief at Kinsta, about the perks of managed WordPress hosting. On top of that, he gave us some cool tips and recommendations that will definitely come in handy to any WordPress user!
In your opinion, what are the 5 most important factors of WordPress hosting?
Customer support, performance, security, onboarding/migration from old hosting, and a powerful dashboard to manage your site. A perfect example is the custom dashboard MyKinsta.
What is the biggest advantage of choosing Kinsta as a hosting provider?
We provide one of the fastest secure tech stacks available on the market. On top of that, our customer support is the stuff of dreams – knowledgeable, proactive, and fast.
What features separate Kinsta from other hosting providers?
There are a couple of things we consider our competitive advantage.
First, we have a proven track record of unmatched performance with up to 200% increase reported by our clients. The main factor behind this success is the new Google Cloud Platform compute-optimized VMs (C2), which is available with all Kinsta plans. Second, we put a great emphasis on incredible customer support. Finally, the custom dashboard, MyKinsta, offers both high-powered and well-organized solution for managing your own or client sites. It is packed with backup, staging environments, and a plethora of useful tools that turn site management into a breeze.
How easy is it to get started with Kinsta if you’re a WordPress blog newbie?
It’s incredibly easy because you don’t have to do anything – as simple as that! Right after you choose the right plan for your needs, you get a dedicated migration expert taking care of everything for you for free. For more info about this process, you can check out our guide on WordPress migrations.
In your opinion, what are the top 3 reasons website admins should choose managed WordPress hosting?
If you’re serious with blogging, manage hosting will be a game-changer. Why? You’ll get peace of mind thanks to superior support, guaranteed uptime, and tech stack optimized for security. You’ll also have the chance to take advantage of a custom dashboard (not cPanel) to manage your sites and staging/developer-friendly environments, as well as increase performances.
As an online marketer, how did you get involved with WordPress?
I started using WordPress back in 2006, with my first job as an Editor in Chief for a tech blog. Since we used WordPress as our CMS, I started getting the hang of it quickly and played around with it by building my very first personal website. It was fun and still is – you can check out my site at MatteoDuo.com.
What are your favorite tricks for improving the user experience on WordPress websites?
A detailed answer would require a blog post in its own right or even a series of articles. But if I have to sum it up into a short answer, here are some key guidelines:
- use white space to give all elements on the page enough “air to breathe”
- improve the readability of your text by choosing the right font, taking advantage of headings and good layout
- make your pages fast and lightweight
What sources do you use to keep up with the latest news and trends about WordPress?
I regularly check all the main blogs covering WordPress-related content and their editors on Twitter. One thing I’ve noticed I love more and more is getting a curated newsletter, so I’d like to give a shout out to two of my favorites – MasterWP and The Repository.
What is your experience in organizing and volunteering in Wordcamps?
I’ve volunteered a few times for different WordCamps in Europe and I’m also the organizer of Lugano WordPress Meetup in Switzerland. Sometimes it gets tough. You have to balance your regular workload while your presence is needed all day long. However, you get a great reward from it – being part of the community and actually helping it to thrive.
What do you do for fun?
Well, I love working! But of course, there’s a life outside of WordPress, so I like spicing it up with traveling, playing tennis, squash, and any sport involving a racket, and reading fiction and non-fiction books.
