Quick Steps for Adding a WordPress Image Caption

Ever noticed how images you see online often have some sort of text, usually in small print, written underneath them? That text is called a caption, and its purpose is to provide additional information about the image. Captions are also useful for SEO purposes, because we tend to scan articles before reading and captions are among the things where we tend to focus our gaze upon.

Of course, not all images have captions, nor should they, but for the situations when adding some detail about a picture seems like a useful thing to do, we thought it would be a good idea to show you just how to add them in your WordPress website.

But, before you get to work on this, we recommend you to quickly edit the images in WordPress, and prepare them to shine on your website.

Adding Captions When Uploading New Images

  1. Upload images to your media library: Go to Media > Add new

The first step in this process is to upload a picture to the WordPress website using the Media Library. Head over to your admin area and navigate to Media, located in the menu on your left-hand side. From there, click on Add New.

Go to your live website and check if the caption is now visible below the photo you added it to.

That’s basically all it takes to successfully add captions to your images. As you can see, you can choose whether you need captions or not when uploading the picture, and you can go back and add captions to the pictures you’re already using on your website. The decision is all yours, now that you know how to do it.
